What's the general consensus, do people upgrade FW as a matter of course or only if problems are apparent?

updating firmware on canon 40d-50

Besides if Canon put them out then there must be a reason, I mean large corporations don't go looking for ways to waste the CEO's "hard earned" money .

I'd apply the patch simply because I don't want to find out after a long day of shooting I got less than stellar results because I didn't upload the latest firmware. You paid for these upgrades/firmware patches when you bought the camera, so why not get your moneys worth.

[ a logical and valid approach, however, there are fixes that companies consider 'publishable' and other fixes that they consider 'do not publish'.

Guidance from you more experienced folks would be very welcome :-)Thanks/ic Hi, My 40D is currently running FW 1.0.3 and I can see that there is FW 1.0.8 available...

I've no specific concerns about the current FW and it seems that there's no additional unlocked functionality.

I just got my camera back from Canon with firmware 1.1.1. I searched on the net but couldn't find anything other than a mention on Fred Miranda that it has something to do with "improper AF adjustment"?

Following the Fred Miranda link above, gives a "use at your own risk" download option for the firmware 1.1.1.

In other words, there may be other things that they will not tell you about in the fix for the print button, because they may consider those things to be non-notifiable.
